Jericho McLaren Vale GSM 2020
The focus of this wine is the Grenache with the other varieties adding structure and complexity to the overall blend. Grenache (78%) had partial whole bunch fermentation, which gives the wine its vibrant red berry characteristics. It was then aged in older french oak barrels to retain the fresh and vibrant. Careful use of Shiraz (17%) adds structure to the wine and the Mourvedre (5%) adds spiciness. Grenache is one of the traditional varieties of McLaren Vale, so we wanted this to be the hero. We were very careful that neither the Shiraz nor Mourvedre were to dominate the blend but to add subtle complexity to the Grenache.
Grenache fruit is grown in the well renown region of Blewitt Springs which is quickly becoming – after 60 years or more – well known for a distinctive style and quality of Grenache in Australia.
