Quin Wines Barossa Valley Grenache 2018
Fruit for this wine was sourced from a single vineyard in Williamstown at the southern end of the Barossa Valley near the boundary of the Adelaide Hills at an altitude of 220m. Planted on a deep silty grey loam overlaying a yellow clay with a large component of the vineyard planted in 1930.
Nose – Green peppercorn, dried green spices, black slate and strawberry liqueur.
Palate – Mid palate filled with strawberries and raspberries, surrounded by an envelope of spices that mirror the nose.
Fruit was hand harvested with two separate components in the winery. One component was 100% whole bunch with fruit direct tipped into open-top fermenters, the other was 50% whole bunch with the remainder destemmed into the open top fermenter before direct tipping. After four weeks on skins the two components were pressed together before overnight settling and racking to seasoned French oak. Eight months maturation in oak before blending and bottling in December 2018.
