Wangolina Originals Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
A bright fragrant wine with blackcurrant, red plum, graphite, fresh tobacco and a hint of mint.
A more contemporary feeling Cabernet, fruit forward and fleshy. A medium weight palate, redolent of plum sauce and blackcurrant. The herbaceous notes of cabernet abound showing mint and jalapeno highlights. The fruit core is supported by a luscious and intertwined cedary oak flavour.
Viticulture and Winemaking
In November 2017, the Wangolina vineyards were hit by a late and quite devastating frost where much of their Cabernet crop was lost. However, as they progressed through the season it became apparent that the fruit that was left was gorgeous, so at the end of March 2018, they handpicked all 800kg of fruit to make this amazingly fragrant Cabernet.
The grapes were handpicked and then fermented in small open fermenters, plunged twice per day. Fermentation took approximately 10 days to complete before the wines were pressed out into a mix of 25% new and 75% seasoned french oak barrels. The wine was allowed to mature for 20 months prior to bottling.
