Yelland & Papps Vin De Soif Grenache Mataro Carignan 2017
Starting with an initial intoxicating and very seductive nose, this blend follows through with raspberry notes, and hints of red fruits. On the palate this drives through with complex medicinal characters and an earthy savouriness, followed by that beautiful sour cherry crunch. The mataro component is taking charge a little with balancing out the softness of the grenache and bringing some real structure to a wine that is easily a too drinkable wine. The carignan although a small 5% component brings this wine together with interest and the enthusiasm to want to enjoy more. This blend is portionally different each year depending on the vintage and the blend components, but it always celebrates Grenache as the hero.
All fruit for the Vin De Soif is hand picked, processed on the YP site and kept separate till final blend prior to bottling. With an average of 38% whole bunch component through the process of the grenache and mataro this wine has an elevated crunch factor through the carbonic maceration process. Made in open fermenters, with natural yeast and an average of 16 days on skins, pressed through the basket to 100% Old French Oak which it then spends 20 months maturation.
