Medium deep colour with dark purple hues. Dark berries, sour cherry, mocha and coffee aromas. Bright berry fruit with complex mocha and coffee profile, chalky tannins and soft fleshy finish. Drink now or age up to five years. Fruit is sourced from Neil and Heather Grace's Home Block, with Pinotage planted in 2015 after a trip to South Africa highlighted the suitability of the variety to the Clare Valley. Alluvial soil over limestone. 14 day ferment on skins in open fermenters with gentle hand-plunging. Gently pressed to tank, settled and transferred to two- to three-year-old French oak puncheons, hogsheads and barriques and matured there for 12 months.

"Pinotage is not something you see every day in Australia. This comes from nine-year-old vines and is made by young winemaker Jack Walker. It feels soft and lighter weight, pleasingly velvety in texture and imbued with red and black cherry, some faint fennel notes, a touch of truffle and dried herb. There's a sweetness on hand, but it feels tempered with the herbal elements and somewhat earthy savouriness going on. The finish lingers well, a little spicy, and tannins build gently to a finale of pucker and light grip. It's a delight all up."
