Barbera
La Prova Uno Barbera Rusco 2020
Vibrant, juicy, silky.
With Uno, La Prova create wines that express only the most unique expressions of site, variety, and grower union. Each wine comes from a specific single vineyard site, so they produce fewer bottles, and that site ticks all the boxes for ideal climate and geography for the variety, and is tended to by one of the most passionate growers they know.
Climate | Cooler due to elevation.
Season | The warm days and cool nights of the 2019 growing season delivered intensity of flavour and great natural acidity in the wines released from this vintage.
Source | Barbera, historically grown in Piedmont in the north of Italy, finds an ideal home at Kuitpo where the warm days are tempered by cold nights. Sandy loam with ironstone, overlying clay. So it drains well, yet the clay component retains water, clay and ironstone also give a little bit more body to the wine.
Grower | Simon and Cecilia Berry. It’s Cecilia Berry’s favorite block. She does all the work here, it always looks immaculate.
Winemaking | Hand-picked, destemmed, wild ferment, 55 days skin contact to sort out the ridiculously high acidity of Barbera and also to savoury-ify the juicy red berry flavours. Six months in old French oak and bottled just prior to Christmas in 2019. Unfined and unfiltered. Vegan friendly.
Style | Juicy red and dark fruits and a textural savoury note on the finish.
Alc/Vol: 13.7%
