This wine sits firmly in the modern Syrah style showcasing fragrant aromatics typical of its Eden Valley provenance. Wild fermented, this is a perfumed and seductive medium bodied wine with whole bunch spice and elegant restraint.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS
The season started with above average winter and spring rains. This cool, wet weather meant that the vines were in no hurry to grow and delayed budburst by several weeks. Varied fruit set occurred due to some wet and windy weather during flowering. The grapes slowly ripened in perfect, mild conditions with pristine flavours and beautiful natural acidity.

TERROIR/PROVENANCE/REGION
The grapes have been sourced from a single vineyard notable for pristine refinement and elegance of style. The Bartholomaeus family vineyard is on the southern edge of Eden Valley township. This old, easterly facing, gently sloping block of 9 acres affectionally known as “Barty’s” is of unknown clones planted in 1920 on its own roots. Rows run east-west on Springland-Marne grey brown podzolic and skeletal soils which are solodized solonetz and solod.

TASTING NOTES
Vibrant, purple red in colour. The 30% whole bunch and wild fermentation has resulted in a perfumed and seductive wine that embraces the senses. Opening with classic whole bunch notes of cedar and green peppercorn, moving into wild sour cherries, rose
florals and sweet mixed berries. The palate is long and flowing. A delicious medium bodied wine with fine, elegant tannins.

Pappardelle with sausage and fennel seed bolognese; lamb en croûte with redcurrant sauce; or try a creamy umami noodle soup with crispy mushrooms.
