This Zitta Wines pack is quite unique and for the Shiraz Aficionado who enjoys vertical tastings of different vintages of the same wine. It contains Zitta Wines Greenock Shiraz from the 2008, 2009 and 2010 vintages. This allows you to compare the three side by side to see the effect that Vintage variations have on Nose, Taste and Colour. This is where it all began. Greenock Shiraz was the first Zitta wine ever produced and remains the pinnacle of the Zitta range.

Dedicated to the memory of wine maker Angelo De Fazio’s father Gaspere (pictured), Greenock Shiraz is a single-vineyard wine using select pickings from a block of old, low-yielding Shiraz vines running along the Greenock Creek. The fruit is open-top fermented, basket pressed and matured for 24 months in new French Oak barrels. A powerful, but elegant wine of great sophistication.

The wine is specifically made for long-term cellaring, with all tannins and tartrates retained at bottling to ensure the development of greater complexity and integration of flavours over time.

The 2008 Greenock Shiraz is opaque black in colour. The nose is greeted by rich aromatics of black fruits, savoury spice, liquorice, nutmeg and dark chocolate, with a pleasant hint of wild violet carrying through. The palate is rich and full bodied with purity of fruit. Dark fruits abound and coat all reaches of the mouth. Natural tannins are fine and dusty, but very well integrated. The wine displays a beautiful mouth feel with perfect harmony of fruit, natural tannin and subtle barrel-ferment characters. This silky but solid wine is completed with a truly amazing length. Stylish and pure, this is a superb wine that, while drinking well upon release, will ultimately benefit from a decade or more in the cellar.

2009 Greenock Shiraz is dark purple-black in colour. On the nose there are powerful aromatics of bright red and black fruits, floral perfume, briar, cedar, savoury spice and sweet herbs. The palate is full-bodied and sophisticated, displaying purity of fruit and subtle barrel-ferment characters. Stylish and elegant but with great intensity, this is a classy Shiraz. Natural tannins are fine and integrated, adding structure and poise. Elegant but solid, this discerning wine is completed by an amazingly lengthy finish. Greenock Shiraz is a superb wine that, while drinking well upon release, will ultimately benefit from a decade or more in the cellar.

2010 Greenock Shiraz is dark black in colour. On the nose there are pristine aromatics of inviting red and black fruits, cedar, herbs, blueberry, nutmeg and perfume of wild violet. The palate is full-bodied, rich and superbly balanced, with bright but dark fruits and subtle barrel-ferment characters. Extremely stylish and elegant but still powerful, purity of fruit is the driver of this wine. Natural tannins are fine, soft and integrated, adding seamless structure. A very lengthy finish completes this distinguished wine. Greenock Shiraz is a superb wine that, while drinking well upon release, will ultimately benefit from a decade or more in the cellar.
