Sangiovese
Sven Joschke La Eleanor Sangiovese 2024
The fruit for this wine was sourced from a long-standing site in Langhorne Creek and picked at 12 baume. It was destemmed and fermented as a single parcel this year. The wine was pressed at 2 baume to minimize extraction from skins and seeds, allowing the fruit's character to shine. Despite the early pressing, the wine retains the classic Sangiovese soft and dusty tannins.
The single vineyard consists of 25-year-old Sangiovese vines from Langhorne Creek, which delivered another excellent vintage despite challenging growing conditions. The wine was bag-pressed into a settling tank, racked post-malo, and aged for six months in neutral French hogsheads and tank. It was bottled unfined with minimal sulphur added.
This Sangiovese showcases cherry spice, dusty dry tannins, and a perfume reminiscent of "Dario the Mad Butcher." It can be served chilled if desired.
Pairings? While not always necessary, it’s perfect with a Tuesday night pizza or Wednesday’s penne alla Parma Rosa.
Drink now, though it has aging potential—though there’s rarely enough left to test its longevity.
