The 2022 vintage was marked by low yields but produced fruit of exceptional quality and intensity. Grapes were hand-harvested on April 10th from 39-year-old vines on the Uley Vineyard, located at the northern end of the Piccadilly Valley.

After being cooled overnight, the grapes were destemmed into small open fermenters, with approximately 18% retained as whole bunches. A four-day cold maceration preceded yeast inoculation and fermentation, which was managed with regular hand plunging. After nine days on skins, the wine was gently pressed, partially settled in tank, and then transferred to new (25%) and seasoned French oak barriques for malolactic fermentation and ten months of maturation. Bottling took place on March 30th, 2024, with the wine left unfiltered and unfined.

The wine displays a vibrant crimson hue, with lifted aromas of floral, berry, and cherry fruits layered over subtle spicy, savoury, and earthy complexities. The palate is soft and lingering, supported by fine, silky tannins. Beautifully expressive now, this wine will continue to develop greater depth and complexity with time in bottle.
