Basket Range Wines

In 1978, Phillip Broderick purchased a property in Basket Range, located in the Adelaide Hills, where he planted a small vineyard of Bordeaux varieties in 1980 and began producing wine. In the mid-1980s, he met Mary, and together they welcomed their sons, Louis and Sholto, who were born in 1992 and 1995, respectively. In the early 2000s, the Brodericks moved to a neighboring property, where they expanded their vineyard.

Basket Range features some of the steepest terrain in the Adelaide Hills, traditionally cultivated with orchards of apples and cherries alongside other horticultural crops. While some remnants of these orchards remain, the property is now home to a 13.5-acre vineyard situated at approximately 450 meters elevation. The vineyard boasts three distinct aspects—two facing north and one southeast—providing varied exposure and soil types. It cultivates a range of varieties, including Pinot Noir (777 and MV6 clones), Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Petit Verdot, and a small quantity of Saperavi. The soil consists of loamy red and blue clay over sandstone, interspersed with schist, ironstone, and shale, with all vines grown organically.
