Bloomfield is the creative side project of Lauren Hansen — wine nerd, self-confessed dork, and devoted dog mum to Morrie. The idea was born many moons ago in university lectures, where Lauren would doodle imaginary wine labels, and finally came to life in 2024. In her day job, she is the senior winemaker at Penley Estate in Coonawarra and a dux of the prestigious Len Evans Tutorial (yes, it’s as fancy as it sounds). Her winemaking journey has taken her across numerous wine regions, working alongside talented winemakers, tasting extraordinary wines, and doing the less glamorous work too — scrubbing floors, driving forklifts, and spending long hours in the cellar. Bloomfield is her chance to not only make her own wines, but also dive headfirst into the world of sales and marketing.

The debut release features three small parcels from across the Limestone Coast — Grüner Veltliner from Mount Benson, Petit Verdot from Wrattonbully, and Mencía from Mundulla — each chosen for its unique character and regional charm. The name “Bloomfield” holds deep personal meaning: it’s her mum’s maiden name, the name of a special patch of native Australian scrub where family gathers around the campfire, and a nod to the fierce, brave women who shaped her. Inspired by her mum’s mantra — “if you want to be a truck driver, be a truck driver, just be a bloody good one” — Lauren has channelled that spirit into winemaking, crafting small-batch wines that are thoughtful, vibrant, and unapologetically personal.
