Sourced from the western side of the 1970-planted Grenache block at Rayner Vineyard, this release comes from a site where yields are naturally lower, with smaller berries and bunches. The vines face gently east, avoiding the intensity of the late afternoon sun, and are planted on sand. Dry-grown and managed organically, the fruit is hand-picked to preserve purity and expression.

The vision for the Rayner Grenache is to capture a style that is both pretty and savoury, an elegant take on the variety that reflects the character of the old block. To achieve this, the fruit is picked slightly earlier to highlight red fruits and herbal notes. Around 20% whole bunch is used, adding fine tannins from the stalks to ensure ageing potential while layering complexity into the flavours.

Fermentation and ageing take place for approximately six months in a combination of ceramic eggs and seasoned French oak barrels, before bottling without fining or filtration. The result is a graceful and detailed expression of McLaren Vale Grenache that balances freshness, savoury depth, and structure.
