If you had said to someone 20, or even 15 years ago that we would be enjoying South Australian whiskeys in the future, you would possible have laughed out of the state. Things have certainly changed. Owned by Gareth and Angela Andrews, Gareth being the head distiller, Fleurieu Distillery is setting a benchmark.
Based down at Goolwa, Gareth has created whiskeys that have developed expressive maple and vanilla oak overtones mixed with spicy sea-air aromas. Scooping Gold in the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards and the American Distilling Institute for their ‘Atlantic Crossing’ release and ‘River’s End release, they are definitely being noticed in the whiskey world.
