GROOM is a distinguished brand under Marschall Groom Cellars, a cherished family-owned winery nestled in the renowned Barossa Valley region of South Australia. Led by Daryl and Lisa Groom, along with their four children, and supported by David and Jeanette Marschall and their six children, the brand represents the culmination of a long-held dream and countless family discussions. Tragically, David lost his battle with an aggressive brain tumor in 2013, but his legacy lives on through GROOM wines.
The journey to transform their dream into reality began with the acquisition of 87 acres of untouched land in the esteemed Kalimna appellation, adjacent to the iconic Penfolds Kalimna vineyard, renowned as the birthplace of Grange. Starting in 1997, the family courageously planted their first shiraz vines, carefully opting for own-rooted plants. Recognizing that the Barossa Valley's warm climate wasn't conducive to producing world-class Sauvignon Blanc, the family meticulously researched the climate within South Australia. This led them to establish a 20-acre vineyard in the cooler, higher rainfall Adelaide Hills appellation of Lenswood, ensuring the perfect grapes for their Sauvignon Blanc.
Eager to experiment and diversify, GROOM introduced an exciting addition to their portfolio: Zinfandel. In 2000, eight acres of Zinfandel vines were planted on the Kalimna Bush Block, offering a unique twist to the brand's offerings. The inaugural release from these grapes came with the limited 2003 vintage, followed by the first commercial release in the USA with the 2006 vintage.
The GROOM label embodies a desire to let the vineyards and their fruit speak for themselves, allowing the style and quality of the wines to shine through. With a meticulous focus on selecting the most ideal viticultural regions for each variety, the GROOM brand exemplifies a commitment to crafting wines of the highest quality. It is an invitation to savor and delight in the fruits of their labor.
