Hugh Guthrie makes unique wines from unique vineyards in The Adelaide Hills. Hugh’s main motivation is to produce excellent wines in small batch volumes for the price of many other ‘regular’ bottlings.

Located very close to Birdwood, in the North-eastern sector of the Adelaide Hills, Hugh scours the region for the best examples of fruit that he can find, which is why his Pinot for example is grown in Ashton whilst the Sauvignon is from Birdwood and Chardonnay from Piccadilly. Truly the right grapes grown in the right place.

At his family’s old farmstead, the magic happens in a small shed towards the back of the property. Most of the oak is seasoned with Sauvignon or Chardonnay, with the reds seeing only second-passage barrique and puncheon with long maceration and whole bunches all lending themselves to Guthrie’s unique style. These are borderline cult wines that sell out quickly.
