Starting out studying to become a hotelier, concentrating on cooking, it wasn't long before James Erskine started concentrating on wine. He worked on becoming a Sommelier and eventually topping the class at the Court of Master Sommeliers exams in Melbourne in 2008. He was also a recipient of the Negociants Working with Wine Fellowship and is a Len Evans Scholar - as well as earning an Honours Degree in Agricultural Science (Oenology)

The first Jauma wines were made from the 2010 vintage from McLaren Vale Grenache fruit. And when he met renowned grower Fiona Wood in 2011, Erskine contracted her to look after the sites he leases, managing the McLaren Vale vineyards with strict organic practices.

Erskine’s philosophy is very much down a natural line, with manipulation and additions shunned, A tiny amount of sulphur at bottling is all that may occur. Erskines wines are natural, but complex, minimum intervention but of maximum interest. Always a popular release, his wines are always highly sought after.
