JCs Own is the brand of accomplished Barossan winemaker Jaysen Collins. He has been making wine for twenty years primarily in the Barossa Valley and in most recently in the USA. He does it because it’s a hell of a lot of fun for me and he gets a lot out of the process. Jaysens' enjoyment stems from being outdoors, the physical work and getting dirty. The science with a bit of guesswork and the chance to drink many amazing wines in the name of research makes it an enjoyable work life. They call it a lifestyle industry and he is all in on this.
Through all this and getting older and apparently more wise Jaysen has come to realise that wine is about what you want it to be. For him there is a time for fun, enjoyment and adventure. There is also the realisation that some special vineyards just need to be bottled without mucking about too much. You will see that in JC’s Own wines - some adventurously different wines in style and packaging and limited releases that pay respect to distinguished single sites around the world.
Jaysen seeks grapes from sustainable vineyards, he is minimalistic in his winemaking preferring to use natural yeasts, low sulphurs and no fining and filtration. In short, these are pure wines that fuel his enjoyment.
JCs Own wines are in very limited quantities and definitely stand out from the crowd.
