The 2024 Old Bush Vine Grenache is crafted from the estate’s own vines at the Vinya Vella vineyard — no more than 2,600 weather-beaten plants that continue to face the annual challenges of nature. Frost, wind, rain, or the absence of it, every season tests the resilience of these old vines. Each vine is managed as an individual, with meticulous attention to detail and an experienced eye ensuring that every one of them receives what it needs. Harvest is timed with precision to capture the vibrant, lifted, floral, and textural side of Grenache — never too early, never too late.

The deep, fine sands of the Vinya Vella soils contribute to a medium-bodied wine that offers lifted aromatics, a crisp fruit core, and the long, fine tannin finish that only truly old vines can deliver. On release, the wine opens beautifully and is versatile enough to complement a wide range of meals and occasions, now or into the future. It is a wine to be enjoyed and shared.

The 2024 season brought new challenges compared to 2023. It was notably warmer and marked by the shortest veraison-to-harvest window of any vintage bottled from the vineyard. The result is a refined, medium-bodied Grenache, with delicate red fruit, floral lift, and crisp fruit woven with savoury notes. Followers of past vintages will recognise the vineyard’s consistent site expression running through this release, though 2024 stands as a step up in poise and refinement.

The season itself began with frost, reducing yields as flowers were lost in spring. Careful vineyard management and selective thinning ensured that, despite lower volume, the quality of the harvest was something to be proud of. Warm, dry conditions followed, with moderate heat spikes in mid-February and again in March during harvest. Grenache’s natural resilience as an isohydric variety ensured it maintained balance, managing its internal water effectively and avoiding sudden ripeness spikes. Interestingly, the frost-affected vines were slower to mature, meaning fruit was ultimately harvested in an excellent window — wines that are neither lean nor heavy, but balanced and fresh. Just like the season itself, the 2024 Old Bush Vine Grenache delivers poise, depth, and an enduring sense of place.
