Grenache
Samuel's Gorge Grenache 2024
Consigned to the role of blending grape for too long, Grenache has now ascended to its rightful place among the great single varietals in McLaren Vale: a regal peasant, if you like. The commitment to varietal Grenache runs deep at Samuel’s Gorge - a cornerstone of winemaking, considered worthy of the spotlight.
The arid, sandy soils of Blewitt Springs cradle the old vines that shape this Grenache; vines with deep memory, deeper roots and quiet resilience. Their modest yields and expressive fruit speak of place and patience, producing wines of lifted aromatics, structure, and understated elegance.
The 2024 Grenache aromatics fan out with sprigs of pollen-laden Geraldton wax, wild mint and golden wattle. Bush she-oak and paperbark tree follow, with bursts of peppercorn. The palate unfolds with cranberry, pigface fruit and the bittersweet lift of orange peel and amaro. The acidity sings and holds the note; complemented by gentle tannins, its intricacy and effortless expression is a song that resonates.
Pair with haloumi saganaki, baked honeyed figs and pecans.
