Straight 6 Pack
Thistledown Gorgeous Shiraz 2021 - 6 Pack
Vintage Conditions:
Rare is the vintage that combines good yields and high quality, but 2021 was just that. Despite being affected by the pandemic, it stood out as a remarkable vintage. It was measured and mild, free from the heat spikes or drought conditions of recent years. Adequate winter rains replenished soil profiles, and the mild weather with intermittent rains during the growing and ripening season ensured a long and extended ripening period. This vintage became one of the longest in recent history, resulting in spectacular outcomes—healthy fruit, moderate sugars, and complex flavors that contribute to wines of beautiful balance, fragrance, and varietal typicity.
Winemaking:
The Shiraz used in this vintage was exclusively sourced from an old vineyard in the Riverland, a property with a grape-growing history dating back to the early soldier settlements. A small proportion of Zibibbo, also known as Muscat, was co-fermented using wild yeasts. The wine underwent a short aging period in old French oak before being bottled young, preserving the hugely aromatic, textural deliciousness that was the goal from the outset.
Tasting:
This Shiraz defies the norm! The nose presents peaches, ripe nectarine, wild raspberry, and a hint of spice. The palate is soft and slurpy, with a silky texture, and any tannins merely add a touch of seasoning—reminiscent of macerated strawberries and black pepper. Transforming a previously undervalued resource into something hugely enjoyable and ultimately gorgeous.
Blend: 86% Shiraz, 14% Zibibbo
Alc/Vol: 13.5%
