Not far from the McLaren Vale township lies a vineyard of old, dry-grown Grenache that Bekkers has long admired. A tiny parcel of exceptional fruit is sourced from these old warriors. To this backbone, three small parcels from vineyards in Kangarilla, Blewitt Springs, and Onkaparinga Hills are added. Grenache from these higher-elevation parts of the valley contributes fragrance and delicate aromatics.  

Grenache is a flagship variety for McLaren Vale and is experiencing a renaissance. With a unique affinity between variety and place, when carefully grown and gently handled, McLaren Vale Grenache has the potential to produce beautiful, expressive wines.  

In this Grenache, Bekkers seeks notes of Indian spice—cloves, cumin, and star anise—along with fragrance and elegant aromatics. The clarity of fruit is a hallmark of the variety. Though not a shrinking violet, it has the structure and depth to age gracefully.
