The Kurtz Family Light Pass Grenache 2023 is a vibrant, fruit-forward wine that reflects the vision of the Kurtz family for a refreshing summer red. Unveiled without the influence of oak maturation, this wine bursts with lively aromas of strawberry, raspberry, and ripe red plums, accompanied by subtle hints of honeysuckle, rose petal, and ginger spice. Perfectly suited for immediate enjoyment, this Grenache is meant to be savored in its youth.

Inspired by a lazy Sunday lunch on a hot summer day, the Kurtz family crafted this wine from a portion of the Boundary Row Grenache in their Light Pass vineyard. The fruit, picked early at just-ripe perfection, underwent a gentle fermentation on skins, extracting the delicious Grenache flavors while maintaining soft and plush tannins.

After pressing, the wine found its home in stainless steel, preserving the bright fruit flavors. Released young to capture the freshness and vibrancy of early harvest Grenache, it's an ideal companion for light, tasty foods. Serve it slightly chilled alongside dishes like salmon, tuna, pork, turkey, duck, and cured meats. It also complements hearty salads, grilled mushrooms, roast beetroot, and lightly spiced Asian and Mediterranean dishes.

Sourced from the Boundary Row Grenache planted in 1961 at the Kurtz Family Vineyard in Light Pass, Barossa Valley, this Grenache embodies the unique characteristics of the region. The 2023 vintage reflects favorable growing conditions, with a wet spring, dry and sunny summer, and a late veraison leading to rich, juicy flavors, bright colors, and well-balanced acidity.

The winemaking process involved fermentation in a small, open fermenter, with gentle hand-plunging to optimize color and flavor without excessive tannin extraction. The decision to bottle early in stainless steel ensures that the Kurtz Family Light Pass Grenache retains its fresh fruit flavors, delivering a wine that captures the essence of a Barossa Valley summer.
