Ministry of Clouds Tempranillo Grenache 2024
Drawing on the heritage of San Sebastian’s pinchos bars, the 2024 Ministry of Clouds Tempranillo Grenache is crafted as a contemporary and versatile "restaurant red" for the Australian table. This release is a blend of 74% Tempranillo and 26% Grenache, sourced from cool-climate sites across Blewitt Springs, the McLaren Foothills, and the Onkaparinga Ridge.
The wine reveals a fragrant bouquet of pomegranate, sarsaparilla, and violets, layered with notes of freshly turned earth and red-berried perfume. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and "moreish," displaying a lithe, juicy core of blood orange, cherry, and red berry fruits. A long line of savoury, ferrous tannins provides a sophisticated structure that carries through to a persistent finish.
Constructed from 17 separate small ferments with extended skin contact for up to seven weeks, the wine was matured for seven months in a combination of concrete eggs, old French oak puncheons, and foudres. It is best served at 16°C and pairs effortlessly with a variety of dishes, ranging from cured meats and grilled seafood to spicier duck and game. While immediately approachable, it will reward cellaring for up to eight years.
