The critical trick to a fine Sangiovese Rose lies in the timing; too early and there’s no flavour, too late and you have made a red wine. This is definitely one that keeps Hugh Hamilton winemakers on their toes and it’s not often that there’s a block more walked during vintage than the Sangiovese block. Thankfully it’s worth all the walking!

Taut with pink lady apples, lime wedges, dried herbs, and strawberries. Peach fuzz and a fine line of fruit. Savoury. Succulent, but not sweet. Both textural and lingering.

The Sangio from Church can tend toward exuberance in both flavour and colour – making it easy to accidentally create a table wine where a rose was the intention. Hugh Hamilton winemakers temper this tendency with a healthy dose of fruit from Wickham Hill – a higher and cooler site yielding more delicate flavours; making the tremendous balance in this wine possible.
