Story: Tempranillo is often referred to as the ‘noble grape’ of Spain and is the main variety used in Rioja. Tempranillo is the diminutive of the Spanish temprano (early), which is a reference to its early ripening characteristics. K1 carry this through the winemaking process with this being the first 2021 red in bottle. Fruit is 100% destemmed into an open fermenter where it is fermented slowly at cool temperatures to retain brightness. This wine is matured in stainless steel for 9 months to preserve maximum fruit purity, the natural fruit tannins provide structure that guides the fruit over your palate.

Vintage: 2021 was an outstanding vintage for the Adelaide Hills. A wet Spring and early budburst conditions were ideal for flowering and fruit of most varieties. The ripening period remained mild giving the fruit extended time on the vine to achieve excellent flavour and ripeness balanced with good levels of natural acidity.

 Nose: The nose offers punchy aromas of raspberry, red cherries and plum interwoven with notes of rose petals and coffee grounds.

Palate: Bright, freshly picked berries continue, the medium-bodied and lingering palate, framed by savoury tannins that highlight a fruit-derived spice note.

Pairing: Go low and slow and try this with Pulled Beef tacos.
