The black grape native to Sicily has found its spiritual home right here in McLaren Vale, one of the best grape variety and regional matches we have encountered.

Warm and Mediterranean.

Season
The 2022 growing season was another mild and gentle growing season. It had a late, wet start in spring, followed by a mild summer and cool autumn. Lots of hang time and lower than average yields.

Grown by the Minchella family on the deep cracking Bay of Biscay soils of Tatachilla Road in McLaren Vale, less than five minutes from Maslin nudist beach ‘apparently’. 

Winemaking
Hand-picked, destemmed to grab as many whole berries as possible and left to kick off for wild fermentation. Pressing at dryness, about 12-14 days on skins to capture rich vibrant dark fruits that this vineyard delivers up so easily. Maturation is in a mixture of old French oak puncheons and hogsheads. Unfined, unfiltered, vegan friendly.

Style
Nero gives us red and dark berries and grown in a warm vineyard in a warm region, really showcases how awesome this variety is, where we get delicious full flavours without the full body and retaining Nero’s tingly finish.
