The Geoff Merrill Reserve Shiraz 2016 is a powerful yet beautifully composed McLaren Vale Shiraz, displaying both youthful structure and impressive depth. Aromas of savoury meats, herbs and spice emerge first from the glass before opening into layers of dark plum, mulberry and roasted coffee. Subtle creamy and toasty oak adds further complexity, reflecting its extended 29 months maturation in new American and French oak barrels. The palate remains tightly wound and vibrant, driven by fine, grippy tannins and racy acidity that promise exceptional longevity. Flavours of raspberry, blueberry, roasted coffee and integrated oak are beginning to harmonise, hinting at the long and rewarding bottle development still to come.

Produced from a challenging yet ultimately rewarding vintage, reduced yields across McLaren Vale delivered fruit with outstanding concentration, natural acidity and structure. Careful ripening conditions allowed the wine to develop remarkable balance and intensity, resulting in a Shiraz that is both serious and age-worthy, with cellaring potential through to 2030 and beyond. Rich, smoky and savoury dishes make ideal companions, particularly barbecue pork ribs, smoked brisket, lamb shanks and beef burgers.
