The Great Escape serves as our benchmark, a cooler climate Chardonnay crafted from fruit cultivated in the elevated vineyard sites of the Eden Valley. These sites facilitate an extended ripening period, preserving the natural sugar and acid balance of the grape. With a moderate alcohol content, focused, crisp citrus fruit, and a mouthwatering finish, this wine embodies a truly modern expression of this noble variety.

Tasting:
The wine presents citrussy notes, subtle oak influence, and a bright yet creamy palate.

Viticulture:
Vineyards are trellised and pruned to produce moderate yields.

Winemaking:
After picking, the fruit goes directly to the press. The free-run juice settles in the tank, retaining a relatively high level of solids in the ferment. The wild fermentation takes place in used French oak or concrete egg. Malolactic fermentation is not encouraged to preserve the crisp, citrus fruit profile.

Vintage Conditions:
The third in a series of La Niña influenced vintages, 2023 was perhaps the most extreme. In an erratic season, the consistent theme was of cooler than average temperatures and wet weather periods during the ripening period. Yields varied massively from site to site and this meant for massive variations in ripening periods and more detailed vineyard work than ever before. The lack of intense heat resulted in one of the latest seasons on record and the wines made display elegance, brilliant aromatics and supreme balance.
