The first-ever vintage of El Desperado Tempranillo was in 2011, a year etched into Australian wine history as tumultuous due to a wet summer that affected many vineyards. Despite the challenges, the team at The Pawn winery decided to forgo producing their full range of wines to focus on creating a new style of wine, which became the iconic El Desperado.

Blending grapes from their Adelaide Hills and Langhorne Creek vineyards, they curated a full-bodied wine that captures the best of both regions. From the Hills, notes of lifted raspberry, cola, and pomegranate with a balanced acidity stand out, while the Creek grapes contribute an earthy richness, ripe plum, blackcurrant flavors, and soft, lingering tannins. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for the medium term, El Desperado Tempranillo embodies a harmonious fusion of terroirs and craftsmanship, a testament to resilience and innovation in winemaking.
