Planted in 1923, this vineyard is one of the oldest Riesling sites in the Clare Valley. It was established by the neighbouring Parish family and has remained in their ownership to this day. The rows run east to west, allowing the canopy to naturally protect the fruit from the region’s intense sun.

The site is unique for Watervale, with vines growing over slate and heavy red clay soils. While limestone dominates much of Watervale, distinct bands of slate run through this area, along with the presence of ironstone within the block. These elements contribute to the wine’s distinctive character and depth.

Due to the heavier clay soils over slate and the age of the vines, the wine shows powerful flavours from the outset. Over five years of working with this vineyard, it has become clear that minimal intervention in the winery best suits the fruit, beyond a clean and controlled fermentation. The wine ferments and matures entirely in stainless steel, with malolactic fermentation generally avoided by keeping the wine cool. In total, it spends 15 months in steel, predominantly on fine lees. The wine was bottled at the end of April 2025 without fining or filtration.
