The 2022 Elderton Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from the family’s Nuriootpa and Craneford vineyards, the latter sitting at higher altitude in Eden Valley and contributing a cooler, later-ripening component. A relatively mild growing season with only brief warm periods allowed for slow, even ripening, with fruit held on vine to achieve optimal flavour development.

In the glass, it shows a deep crimson hue. The ароматics are generous and layered, revealing intense black forest fruits alongside notes of chocolate and savoury herbs.

The palate is rich and complex, opening with black berry compote and dark fruit intensity, supported by subtle oak influence from maturation in predominantly older French puncheons over 18 months. Full-bodied and structured, it carries a refined, classy mouthfeel, with balance and depth driven by the vintage’s natural freshness.

Approachable now, the wine has the structure to cellar confidently for up to a decade from vintage.
