Tempranillo
La Linea Tempranillo 2021
Tempranillo?
Spain’s great red grape! It is grown across the country in diverse climates and made into many styles. Renowned UK writer and critic Jancis Robinson describes it as “... capable of making deep coloured, long‐lasting wines that are not notably high in alcohol...”, with characters including “strawberries... spice, leather and tobacco leaves...”.
It's no longer a newbie in Australia, but our experience exceeds that of many makers. La Linea was involved in the planting of the first block in the Hills in 1998, and their ‘Temp’ winemaking experience dates back to 2001.
Our style:
The aim has always been to make a fragrant, medium‐bodied but savoury wine. It’s what the Hills does best from this variety.
The elevated Kuitpo block offers red berry perfume and finesse, while the lower and warmer Macclesfield site provides the core of savoury tannin for which the variety is noted. Blended, they make a wine with youthful appeal and approachability, but satisfying depth and length.
A wine of balance and poise, but with a structure which will see it soften and gain complexity in bottle over 5‐10 years.
