Gentle Folk

Prior to winegrowing, Gareth and Rainbo were both marine scientists, specialising in phycology (the study of marine plants). But a love of wine, food and growing things eventually drew them away from academic life. The Gentle Folk story began in 2012 after spending a lot of their free time in Basket Range helping and hanging out with James Erskine (Jauma), Alex Schulkin (The Other Right) and other early pioneers of the Basket Range wine movement.

Deciding that Basket Range in the Adelaide Hills was the best spot to settle, Gareth and Rainbo got started on creating something special. They farm five sites totaling eight hectares, planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. They are also fortunate to be able to purchase fruit from a number of great vineyards in the Adelaide Hills.

Creating beautifully structured and delicate wines from gorgeous fruit, the guys package their wines with wonderful labels from designer and musician Alex Harris. With small batches, it's always exciting for us here at Regions to get their latest offerings.

The 2024 Gentle Folk Little Creek Pinot Noir reflects the distinct personality of its remote Norton Summit site—an isolated valley just over the hill from Monomeith, yet very much its own beast.
