Penny's Hill

Penny’s Hill was founded in 1988 on the picturesque foothills east of McLaren Vale, overlooking the Gulf St. Vincent. Originally a grazing property, the estate was planted with vines in 1991, with a unique narrow-row configuration aimed at maximizing vineyard productivity and quality. Over the years, additional vineyard acquisitions, including Malpas Road and Goss Corner, expanded Penny’s Hill, bringing together an impressive collection of sites that reflect the region’s diverse soils and microclimates.

With a strong commitment to sustainable viticulture, Penny’s Hill focuses on growing exceptional fruit and crafting wines that express their unique terroir. Under the expert guidance of Chief Winemaker Alexia Roberts, each parcel of fruit is carefully harvested in small batches, then nurtured through a meticulous winemaking process. The winery’s close proximity to the vineyards allows for a hands-on approach, ensuring quality control and creative blending options. Their wines, whether rich and round from the Malpas and Goss Corner vineyards or intensely perfumed from Penny’s Hill’s sandy loam soils, are a true reflection of McLaren Vale’s character.

Since joining Penny’s Hill in 2013, Alexia Roberts has elevated the brand through her innovative approach and dedication to quality, leading the winery into an exciting era as part of the Randall Wine Group. Alongside her winemaking, Alexia champions women in the wine industry, serving on the Australian Women in Wine advisory board. Her leadership and vision have continued to build Penny’s Hill into a celebrated name, producing wines that have gained worldwide recognition.
