In mythology, “shapeshifting” is the ability of a being or creature to completely transform its physical form or shape. This is what beer should be all about. The ability to take four key ingredients – water, malt, hops and yeast – and transform them not into just one taste, but into many different tasting beers. The wolf is also a representation of the Latin name for hops - humulus lupulus or ‘little wolf’. The name refers to the plants tendency to strangle other plants, as a wolf does to a sheep.

As a company, the name Shapeshifter has the context of shifting people’s perceptions of beer, the role it plays in society, and the brewing industry as a whole. It is their intention to play a major role in the shaping of this exciting, evolving industry.

Owners James & Kevin met whilst studying for their Certificate III in Food Processing (Microbrewing) in 2016. James had been an avid homebrewer since 2012, and attended several courses under esteemed TAFE lecturer Stephen Nelsen with dreams of going pro. Kevin is an astute and experienced business person who was looking to team up with a passionate brewer.

Thus, Shapeshifter was born. Follow them on their journey of bringing modern seasonal beer to Adelaide and beyond.
